About Faith Baptist

History

The Faith Baptist Mission was formed in the home of Ray and Regina Taylor, located on 500 West 9th Street in Ada, OK. The First Baptist Church of Fitzhugh was the sponsor at the time but later turned it over to the Banner Association.

The first service was held on January 13, 1986 with 13 in attendance. We had two classes.

After four months in the home, and now 65 in attendance, the Mission relocated to a vacant store building at 431 West 7th Street. The following are the ministries the mission had: church visitation, hospital visitation, jail ministry, Ada Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center, and a few trips to the prison.

In April of 1987, the church relocated to a larger facility at 1026 North Broadway. It was a sheet iron barn, and with the help of the men of the churches in the Banner Association and High Hill Indian Baptist Church, the barn was converted into a church building. The mission had added a few more ministries which were: bible studies at Kullihoma Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center, in-home bible studies and McCalls Chapel. The building was filled to capacity and Sunday School attendance was now from 60 to 80. Some of the children in the Sunday School classes had to be moved out under the tree during good weather and into the vans in bad weather. We learned to appreciate nature.

In 1987, Fitzhugh Baptist Church turned the sponsorship of Faith Baptist Mission over to the Banner Baptist Association. Faith Mission wrote a petitionary letter to Banner Baptist Association and it was accepted. In October of 1988, Banner Association held their annual meeting at Trinity Baptist Church in Ada, OK. During the meeting, Faith Baptist Mission was constituted into Faith Baptist Church.

Ray Taylor resigned as pastor in September of 1990.

Gerald Kelly became Interim pastor in October 1990. The pulpit committee had asked Brother Gerald Kelly that if he became Interim pastor, would he help the church secure a building with adequate space to worship and grow in, in which he agreed. The events that followed were miracles that only God could have led us through and let us see.

In November of 1990, a church building which was fully furnished on Ahloso Road was put up for sale. With Gerald Kelly leading, the following people were very instrumental in helping Faith Church with the procedures of purchasing the building: Bud Throne - Director of Missions for Banner Association, Phil Busby, Bob Bender of Ada First Baptist, Bob Haskins of the Baptist General Convention Missions Department, Baptist Foundation, and Faith Baptist Church Trustees (Wedes Rasha, Quanah Nail, and Toney Buck). In April of 1991, we had a beautiful service to dedicate the building to the Lord.

At the end of April 1991, Gerald Kelley resigned as Interim Pastor.

Woodrow Fields became Interim Pastor on May 1, 1991. The church ordained Brother Fields as a minister in June of 1991. He then became the pastor of the church on July 1, 1991, and resigned on February 4, 2001. His wife's name is Lola.

On February 9, 2001, Toney Buck became Interim Pastor. The church ordained him as a gospel minister on July 21, 2001. That day he became the pastor of Faith Baptist Church.

Toney Buck resigned as pastor on January 10, 2016.

Jordan Parnacher resigned as pastor in January of 2020.

Alan Washington became the pastor of Faith Baptist Church on July 5, 2020.
